What kind of childbirth classes are eligible for reimbursement?
There are many great options for childbirth classes today, but how do you know if they are eligible for reimbursement? An easy way to determine if a class would be eligible would be as long as it has to do with giving birth and not child-rearing. Some of the topics that are discussed during eligible childbirth classes:
- The signs of labor/the typical progression of labor and birth
- Body mechanics of pregnancy and birth
- Partner support during labor
- Pain coping techniques
- Focused breathing techniques, body positioning, and relaxation strategies
- Understanding the early postpartum period
- Vaginal and Cesarean delivery
- Possible complications and how your provider will handle them
- Epidurals and other pain management options
What classes are not eligible for reimbursement?
Classes regarding the general health of the fetus & newborn, newborn care, infant swimming, infant CPR, bottle feeding, and parent coaching. However, health-related classes for the primary purpose of obtaining information on a specific medical condition may qualify with a Letter of Medical Necessity from a doctor.
